When you think of greats you think of Elvis, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, James Brown and the list goes on and on. In Hip Hop, when you think of greats, you say two names….Biggie & 2PAC. But now you can add two more names to that list. Jay – Z, and Kanye stepped out at the O2 arena knowing that they really are living legends in Hip Hop. With over 20 albums under their belt (all bar 2 being platinum) & with their first collaboration album ‘Watch The Throne’ selling over 20 million copies worldwide in the first day of iTunes sales, even though to some critics say it was not a “classic”, the way they performed it tonight had me disagreeing with what has been written. Over 20,000 fans crammed into the O2 arena signing every line, verse and even ad libs, so much so there was no need for a hype man (sorry Memphis Bleek).
The first track they smashed through was H.A.M. IMO not my fave track off the WTT album, but it still had me rocking. The great thing about this concert is for two hours they went through their whole back catalog of hits from Reasonable Doubt all the way to Blueprint 3 & from College Dropout to My Dark Twist Fantasy. . Tune After Tune After Tune they rocked the place you. Some moments I thought “WoW, am I ever going to see a concert as great as this? or could anyone emulate what Jay & Ye are doing. They ended the night with 4…YES 4 “N***AS IN PARIS’, Making the whole O2 Arena completely SPASS OUT!!. Now I’m usually reserved at events like these but even I was doing some next type of jumping around, think this is the only way to stop people from stepping on my new Air Jordan Spiz’Ike’s. Drake and Lil Wayne have been toying with the idea of doing a joint album, which many people say will out sell WTT, but to be honest i doubt weather the “New Age Hip Hop Sound “of Drizzy & Tunechi could make the average person lose themselves in the moment.
I get the sence that they are not just Hip Hop stars, but Rock Stars that sit on the throne, looking at other rappers trying to reach their status. Maybe one day we will be looking back in time and say .. “Jay-Z & Kanye West, were one of the greatests”!!
